Rolling Stock Engineer

About the Role
The Rolling Stock Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the optimal performance of operational assets on the Dubai Metro. The role is focused on providing engineering support and driving asset performance improvements across Rolling Stock and Depot. It requires strong technical acumen, analytical capability, and the ability to act as an engineering focal point to support asset performance analysis, engineering investigations, and change management activities within the Engineering & Maintenance function.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic

• Supports strategic investment planning by contributing engineering input, data-driven insights, and technical justifications to business cases for systems, processes, and solutions.
• Aligns engineering improvements and asset strategies with long-term organizational objectives, ensuring compliance with applicable international asset management and rail engineering standards.
• Supports reliability-based and lifecycle-focused initiatives to enhance asset performance and availability.
• Lead Technical Investigation related to the assets and other interfaces (Power supply, ATC and systems)
• Drive obsolescence management strategies for rolling stock systems and components, ensuring long-term asset sustainability and cost-effective lifecycle management.

Financial

• Does not directly manage budgets but supports cost-effective maintenance and asset management strategies.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of asset regimes and contributes engineering input to business cases that justify investments.
• Indirectly influences financial outcomes through optimized asset lifecycle performance and engineering-led resource planning inputs.

Stakeholder / Customer

• Engages regularly with internal stakeholders including Maintenance teams, Senior Section Managers, Data team, and Operations to ensure engineering support and asset data outputs align with operational needs.
• Provides technical input and influence to support cross-departmental collaboration and continuous improvement initiatives.

Operational

• Executes asset improvement initiatives and supports engineering investigations into asset performance, reliability, and failure trends.
• Analyses asset performance data and develops insights aligned with FRACAS, Failure Review Boards, and change management processes.
• Supports compliance with ISO 55000 series asset management principles and internal engineering governance.
• Develops and maintains technical documentation, engineering procedures, and asset-related data models.
• Supports engineering change management, engineering reviews, and system performance assessments.

Capability / People

• Provide strong people leadership and line management for FC, FLRT, ECC staff, and System Monitoring Analysts, ensuring professionalism, engagement, collaboration, and a positive team culture.
• Manage workforce capability and competence by overseeing CMS cycles, unannounced assessments, training compliance, skill gap analysis, and effective development planning.
• Develop and sustain a high‑performing, resilient team through mentoring, coaching, succession planning, recruitment support, and knowledge sharing across operational and engineering functions.
• Lead performance management and employee relations processes, including performance reviews, feedback, disciplinary and grievance matters, ensuring fair, consistent, and policy‑compliant outcomes.
• Enable effective workforce planning and operational credibility, supporting shift coverage, workload balance, change communication, participation in technical forums, and rotational duty as Fault Controller.

Dimensions

• Operates within the Engineering Department and reports to the Rolling Stock Senior Engineer.
• Influences asset management and engineering decisions across multiple technical disciplines.
• Interfaces with cross-functional departments to support maintenance planning, data analytics, engineering assurance, and project-to-engineering transitions.
• Provides engineering input and recommendations but does not hold approval authority for capital investment or policy decisions.

Key Competencies

Technical Competencies

• Strong grounding in engineering principles, standards, and best practices.
• Experience with RAMS processes, FRACAS, Failure Review Boards, and engineering change management.
• Working knowledge of ISO 55000 series asset management standards and asset lifecycle principles.
• Ability to perform advanced data analysis and develop asset performance dashboards and reports.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation; familiarity with AutoCAD is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge in Rolling stock Interfaces (Power, ATC and systems, Tracks)

Minimum Qualifications
Required

• Diploma, Bachelor's, or Master’s degree in engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Experience

• Experience in a system engineering role in Rolling Stock Depot and related interfaces.
• Experience in stakeholder management.
• Proven experience in asset planning and maintenance development.
• Ability to develop and interpret large data sets.

Desirable

• Strong presentation skills for senior stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Understanding of safety management systems and QHSE compliance.
