Rust Engineering Lead - Linux and Open Source

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems for the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, plays a vital role in various innovative enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We aim to drive the adoption of Rust within our offerings, starting with Ubuntu and extending to our projects and open-source contributions.

We seek Rust Engineering Leads of all experience levels to drive this vision, focusing on system-level services using Rust and enhancing the Linux ecosystem. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing well-tested software in Rust, advocating for Rust adoption, debugging user issues, and collaborating on technical specifications.

Location: Remote, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Work Conditions:

• Full-time remote position
• Ability to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each)
• Work in a fully distributed environment with occasional in-person team sprints

Language Requirements:

• Professional written and spoken English

What We Are Looking For:

• An exceptional academic record and a degree in Computer Science or STEM
• Experience designing and writing high-quality Rust software on Linux
• Passion for Linux at the system level
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multinational environment

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience developing for Ubuntu
• Familiarity with LXD, MicroK8s, SnapD, IoT, Juju, Ubuntu Core, or Ubuntu Pro
• Performance engineering and security experience
