We are seeking Rust Engineering Leads of all experience levels to drive the adoption of Rust in our offerings, starting with Ubuntu and extending to our projects and other open-source initiatives. Rust is viewed as a transformative language for system-level services and is poised to redefine the foundations of future Linux systems.

What your day will look like:
- Design and implement well-tested, documented software in Rust
- Advocate for Rust adoption in Canonical and upstream projects
- Identify projects that could benefit from Rust
- Debug and resolve issues for users
- Participate in code and architectural reviews
- Collaborate on technical specifications with the community and colleagues
- Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices
- In some cases, deploy and operate services developed by the team
- Contribute to your product's success through technical advocacy
What We Are Looking For:
- Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path
- For senior roles, experience in building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs
- A proactive approach and the ability to exceed expectations
- Well-organized, self-starting, and able to meet deadlines
- Appreciation of diversity and professionalism in a multi-cultural organization
- Experience designing and writing high-quality Rust software on Linux
- Passion for Linux at the system level
- Professional written and spoken English
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
- A personal drive to meet commitments
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each)
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience developing for Ubuntu
- Familiarity with LXD, MicroK8s, SnapD, IoT, Juju, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Pro
- Performance engineering and security experience
