We are seeking a Ubuntu Security Engineer to join our industry-leading software security team, focusing on protecting the open-source community and Ubuntu users from emerging threats. You will have the opportunity to monitor, triage, respond to, and document vulnerabilities in open source software, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to prioritize and track issues.

Work Conditions:
Full-time, Remote with international travel requirements (up to twice a year for one week)

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in Ubuntu packages.
  • Keep track of vulnerabilities as they are discovered, researched, and fixed using internal software tools.
  • Collaborate with other teams in the Ubuntu community and upstream developers to exchange or develop vulnerability patches.
  • Audit source code for vulnerabilities.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing them.
  • Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices.
  • Knowledge of open source development tools and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, or PHP.
  • Excellent logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members and community members.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Appreciation for diversity and effective collaboration in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Self-motivation and a result-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for company events.
