We are looking for a Security Engineer for Ubuntu to join our advanced software security team. In this role, you will focus on protecting the open source community and Ubuntu users against emerging security threats. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing, fixing, and testing vulnerabilities in Ubuntu packages.
  • Keeping track of new vulnerabilities in Ubuntu releases and ensuring they are researched and fixed.
  • Collaborating with the Ubuntu community and upstream developers to develop and exchange vulnerability patches.
  • Auditing source code for vulnerabilities.

This role requires international travel several times a year, usually for one week at a time.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A thorough understanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities and their remediation techniques.
  • Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices and open source development tools/methodologies.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, or PHP.
  • Excellent logic, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication abilities to interact effectively with the team and community members.
  • Experience in Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Good interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-cultural, multi-national organization.
  • Self-motivated and result-oriented.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for company events.
