Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, known for its widely used platform, Ubuntu. As a Security Engineer, you will help protect the open-source community and Ubuntu users from emerging threats by monitoring, triaging, responding to, and documenting vulnerabilities in open-source software. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to identify and prioritize issues, engage in security assessments, code reviews, and collaborate with the Ubuntu community.

This full-time, remote position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and requires international travel several times a year (typically one week).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in Ubuntu packages.
  • Track vulnerabilities in Ubuntu releases as they are discovered and fixed.
  • Collaborate with the Ubuntu community and upstream developers to exchange or develop vulnerability patches.
  • Audit source code for vulnerabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities and techniques for addressing them.
  • Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices.
  • Experience with open-source development tools and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, or PHP.
  • Strong logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with team members and the Ubuntu community.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.
