In this role, you will monitor, triage, respond to, and document vulnerabilities in open source software while collaborating with both internal teams and external partners to identify, prioritize, and track issues. Additional activities may include security assessment, code review, internal tooling development, community engagement, security hardening, feature development, and industry collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in Ubuntu packages.
  • Track vulnerabilities in Ubuntu releases as they are discovered and resolved using internal tools.
  • Collaborate with the Ubuntu community and upstream developers to exchange or develop vulnerability patches.
  • Audit source code for vulnerabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of common security vulnerabilities and techniques for remediation.
  • Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices.
  • Experience with open source development tools and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, or PHP.
  • Excellent logical reasoning, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication abilities with the team and community members.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability in a multicultural environment.
  • Self-motivated with a result-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.
