Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, notably known for our platform, Ubuntu, which is widely utilized in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. As part of a globally distributed team, Canonical is looking for exceptional security-focused software engineers to be integrated across product teams. These engineers will focus primarily on enhancing security practices through threat modeling, architecture and design reviews, and vulnerability response, among other state-of-the-art methodologies.

Security roles may include:

  • Defining, implementing, and documenting new security features
  • Leading security initiatives within product engineering teams
  • Analyzing, fixing, and testing vulnerabilities in open source software
  • Contributing to Ubuntu and upstream open source projects
  • Auditing and analyzing source code for vulnerabilities
  • Achieving and retaining security certifications
  • Developing hardening automation for Ubuntu

Location: Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, globally remote role with mandatory international travel at least twice a year.

Requirements

  • Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science or a related STEM field, or equivalent experience
  • Thorough understanding of common security vulnerabilities and their fixes
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C, C++, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript)
  • Experience in a security-focused role and familiarity with open source development
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)

Optional Skills

  • Communication skills to engage effectively with team members and the Ubuntu community
  • Experience with Linux kernel
  • Knowledge of cryptographic modules and compliance requirements
