We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (PHP/Laravel) to join the merchant-focused squads. The role will be heavily involved in building and scaling backend services that directly support our merchants, across different streams. The core stack will include PHP and Laravel, along with RESTful APIs, integrations, and scalable architecture. You will be focused on enhancing merchant journeys (orders, shipping, catalog, etc.) and will work closely with product, design, and engineering teams.

Responsibilities
- Write “clean”, well-designed code
- Produce detailed specifications
- Troubleshoot, test, and maintain the core product software and databases to ensure strong optimization and functionality
- Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle
- Follow industry best practices
- Develop and deploy new features to facilitate related procedures and tools if necessary
- Write high-quality code with readability, efficiency, and maintainability in mind
- Build reusable code and libraries for future use
- Analyze performance
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
Requirements
- 4+ years of proven experience in software development with PHP and Laravel (preferably in high-traffic or complex systems)
- Strong proficiency in web technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), AJAX, and building responsive interfaces
- Hands-on experience with third-party APIs (Google, Facebook, Payment Gateways, etc.)
- Solid knowledge of relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) with the ability to write and optimize complex queries
- Proficiency with version control tools (Git) and working with Git Flow
- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services
- Familiarity with caching, queues, and performance optimization techniques
- Passion for applying best practices (SOLID principles, design patterns) and writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code
- Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and code reviews
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field is a plus
- Bonus points: exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or CI/CD pipelines
