Responsibilities
- Architect backend systems to facilitate reliable data movement between our cloud systems and edge/device environments, accommodating various network protocols with built-in failure tolerance.
- Make key design decisions regarding containerization and cloud-to-edge deployment methodologies for systems that must remain operational in the event of network disruptions.
- Collaborate directly with engineers working on the physical products to determine necessary backend architecture, often even before fully defined requirements are available.
- Diagnose and resolve complex systemic production issues such as latency, dropped connections, and data consistency across unreliable links, focusing on root causes rather than superficial fixes.
- Elevate the technical capabilities of the backend team as the organization scales, through effective work rather than reliance on title.

Skills Required
- 7+ years of experience in backend development, demonstrating real ownership over large-scale, production systems from start to finish.
- Proficient in Java, Python, or Kotlin, with deep, hands-on experience in at least two of these languages and the ability to reason through all three.
- Established history of independently driving system design and architecture decisions, including managing trade-offs and dealing with pushback.
- Real experience with cloud services and edge computing, particularly in relation to the reliable transfer of data across multiple network protocols.
- Strong background in containerized development and specific cloud-to-edge deployment strategies.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making independent decisions without a substantial support team or established procedures.
