Position

As a Senior Database Engineer, you will serve as the primary engineer for Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and other database technologies. You will be responsible for database backup and restore functions, with scheduled tests of disaster recovery (DR) availability, including knowledge of MS SQL restoration and availability technologies such as Clustering, Replication, and Always-On.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in CAB meetings, DORM calls, escalation calls, and improvement sessions.
  • Conduct performance tuning for MS SQL production SQL instances and databases.
  • Understand SQL parameter/configuration file enhancements and perform deep tuning.
  • Participate in SQL code reviews for application teams to enforce SQL coding standards.
  • Build and report on SQL environment performance and availability metrics, taking appropriate actions to implement best practices and optimize performance.
  • Assist in the technical analysis and design for current and future projects.
  • Write SQL scripts to extract data efficiently.
  • Install database software/features on servers as needed.
  • Monitor databases for performance and issues using monitoring tools.
  • Ensure all database servers are managed to Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
  • Work closely with vendors and external support to provide a stable environment.
  • Architect and maintain Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and backup/restore strategies.
  • Lead performance tuning, patch management, and complex incident resolution.
  • Manage the lifecycle of Oracle and SQL databases, including provisioning, migration, and upgrades.
  • Ensure high availability and replication readiness across data centers.
  • Implement automation for routine tasks using Powershell/T-SQL, PL/SQL scripting, and SQL Jobs.
  • Ensure compliance with NCA and NDMO, and secure data handling and auditing.
  • Mentor L2 Oracle/SQL engineers and interface with solution architects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically, 6+ years of relevant work experience in the industry, with a minimum of 2+ years in a similar role.
  • Advanced skills in Oracle 19c+, RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, OEM, SQL 2014, SQL 2017, SQL 2019, SSIS, and SSRS.
  • Expertise in SQL optimization, schema tuning, and database deep troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with fine-tuning tools such as SQL Profiler, extended events, default trace, and Windows performance counters.
  • Experience in large database environments and hybrid cloud database setups.
  • Knowledgeable in automation, reporting, and automatic performance tuning.
  • Strong understanding of industry-standard database management practices and methodologies.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP).
  • Professional certification in database administration.
  • Experience with Powershell, Windows & Unix administration, and ITIL.
