About the Job:

As a Senior Database Platform Engineer, you will work with our Core Infrastructure – Data Systems team, which is responsible for building and maintaining the shared data systems that other engineering teams depend on to deliver production services efficiently. Your role is hands-on and includes owning and enhancing production-grade stateful systems, improving observability, incident prevention, and collaborating with other engineers on data-system design and performance.

Location: United Arab Emirates (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure reliability, availability, performance, capacity, backup/restore, disaster recovery, and security of shared data systems.
  • Operate and enhance platforms including Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, MariaDB, and various NoSQL databases.
  • Build and maintain high-touch abstractions and self-service workflows for operational changes and maintenance.
  • Automate repetitive tasks, enhancing diagnostics, documentation, and incident resolution.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams on data access patterns, query optimization, schema design, and operational readiness.
  • Enhance observability, alerting, SLOs, and operational reviews to streamline systems understanding and reduce incident frequency.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.

Required Skills:

  • Strong hands-on experience in operating production-grade stateful or distributed systems.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Rust, or Go, with a history of automating operations or infrastructure tasks.
  • Experience deploying and managing production tools and services.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, especially regarding stateful workloads.
  • Solid understanding of Linux, networking, and systems troubleshooting.
  • Experience with observability, incident response, and post-incident analysis.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, or MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Terraform, GitOps, CI/CD.
  • Knowledge of data engineering technologies like CDC, Kafka Connect, or Flink.
