About the Role
The Senior Engineer (AI Engineer) is responsible for accelerating and governing the adoption of AI within the engineering practice. This role involves building, rolling out, and maintaining the necessary tooling, standards, and controls to enable squads to deliver software with AI assistance safely, consistently, and cost-effectively. This is a hands-on engineering position, requiring the individual to be a practicing software engineer with expertise in either frontend or backend development, applying their engineering knowledge to AI-assisted development. Collaboration with Principal Engineers and reporting to the Digital Engineering Chapter Lead is essential to ensure alignment of AI practices with engineering standards across the Retail Banking Group.

Key Responsibilities
- Write, review, and ship production code while establishing credibility with the squads being supported.
- Own the operational health of AI engineering, focusing on adoption rates, output quality, token and license consumption, and cost efficiency per unit of delivery.
- Document, train, and run enablement initiatives to ensure that good practices are rapidly scaled across teams.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a software engineer with a focus on either frontend or backend development.
- Strong understanding of AI technology and its application within software development.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team to promote best practices and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to advancing AI technology within the engineering practice.
