Senior DevOps Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer to take ownership of our cloud infrastructure, source control, and delivery pipelines from end to end. As a key player in our fast-growing B2B distribution of digital prepaid products, you will manage our digital gifting platform hosted on AWS, which utilizes .NET services, React portals, SQL Server, and partner APIs across over 80 countries. In this ownership role, you will ensure our AWS environments are secure, reliable, and cost-efficient, while providing engineers with fast and trusted delivery pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

AWS Infrastructure & Infrastructure as Code

• Own all AWS infrastructure as code (CloudFormation / CDK / Terraform); implement no manual changes in production.
• Design and maintain multi-account AWS environments including VPC networking, ECS/Lambda, RDS SQL Server, S3, CloudFront, Route 53, SES, and API Gateway.
• Manage IAM and IAM Identity Center with least-privilege access across accounts and teams.
• Build reusable IaC modules and templates to ensure services adhere to a reviewed standard baseline.
• Detect and eliminate configuration drift between environments.

GitHub Organisation & Source Control

• Oversee the GitHub organisation, including repositories, teams, permissions, rulesets, branch protection, and CODEOWNERS.
• Define and enforce branching, pull request, and release conventions across all teams.
• Manage secrets, environments, with dependency and code scanning tools (Dependabot, GitHub Advanced Security).
• Maintain clean, documented, and auditable repositories.

CI/CD with GitHub Actions

• Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions for .NET, React, and infrastructure repositories.
• Create shared reusable workflows and composite actions to standardize pipelines organization-wide.
• Utilize OIDC federation to AWS instead of long-lived access keys.
• Implement environment approvals, safe deployment strategies (blue/green, canary) and fast rollback procedures.
• Manage self-hosted or larger runners when necessary to balance speed and cost.

Reliability, Observability & Incident Response

• Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms using CloudWatch and related tools to ensure actionable alerts.
• Participate in on-call duties and lead infrastructure incident response and post-mortems.
• Own backup, disaster recovery, and restore testing for critical systems and databases.

Security, Cost & Continuous Improvement

• Collaborate with the Security Lead to enhance security protocols using WAF, GuardDuty, Security Hub, KMS, CloudTrail, and secrets management.
• Monitor and reduce AWS expenditures through right-sizing, tagging, and reserved capacity.
• Document infrastructure, runbooks, and pipelines to enhance team independence.
• Automate repetitive tasks and strive for continuous improvement in developer experience.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering, with a minimum of 4 years managing production workloads on AWS.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform) across multi-account AWS environments.
• Strong administration skills with GitHub, including organizations, rulesets, CODEOWNERS, secrets, and security features.
• Proven experience in building and maintaining complex GitHub Actions pipelines, including reusable workflows and OIDC to AWS.
• Solid understanding of networking and security fundamentals, including VPCs, DNS, TLS, IAM, and secrets management.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell; familiarity with Docker and ECS (Kubernetes/EKS is a plus).
• Experience supporting .NET and SQL Server workloads on AWS is an advantage.

Ownership & Communication

• Take full ownership of systems, from design to incident management.
• Document processes clearly and share knowledge for effective team operations.
• Communicate effectively to challenge unsafe shortcuts and clarify trade-offs with engineers and leadership.
• AWS certifications (DevOps Engineer Professional, Solutions Architect) and experience in fintech or payment sectors are a plus.
