Senior Director Software Engineering

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Director of Software Engineering with strong technical leadership experience to grow and scale our engineering team, deliver business results, and ship high-quality software across customer-facing products and internal platforms. Your department is a sizable domain with many independent verticals, each pursuing multiple paths of tactics and strategy. Your teams will be responsible for architecting, designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining the software needed to provide our customers with an industry-leading experience. This role involves both technical leadership and people management, ensuring that our engineering team is effective, motivated, and aligned with the company's goals.
We employ the principles of data-driven development, operational excellence, process calibration, and efficiency to deliver a stable, extensible platform at scale. With strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, coding patterns, modern open-source frameworks, and third-party platform integrations, we aim to innovate rapidly in this exciting new market. You will be AI-forward and able to lead the way, inspiring teams to push AI to its boundaries in modern engineering.

Responsibilities

• Build organizations of leaders who foster an environment where innovation thrives to solve impactful software problems.
• Lead multiple senior technology and engineering leaders tasked with creating exemplary architecture and/or product solutions.
• Deliver the roadmap and ensure achievement of commercial and engineering goals.
• Ensure the right people are in the right positions and actively build succession plans and leadership opportunities.
• Foster continuous improvement, supporting our mission and advocating for the removal of bottlenecks that impact your department.
• Advocate for effective communications externally and represent the company at public events.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and collaborate with leaders to prioritize technical efforts and product features.
• Challenge operational excellence and push leaders to set higher standards.
• Provide clear KPI updates and status reports to executives and stakeholders.
• Own the direction of your domain while influencing others, focusing on strategy.
• Utilize metrics and feedback to drive decisions and challenge the status quo on developer experience.
• Mentor at all organizational levels on developing talent.
• Drive recruitment efforts to onboard a diverse group of engineers and leaders while continuously improving hiring processes.
• Develop a solid understanding of our industry, product, and roadmap while remaining current on technologies and trends in software development.
• Be open to occasional travel to offices and events for meetings and team-building activities.

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with 10+ managing other engineering leaders.
• Expertise in managing multiple teams with an ability to influence and uphold quality standards.
• Demonstrated experience in resource decision-making.
• Capability to communicate complex technical subjects effectively to diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with Agile software delivery and SCRUM methodology.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, influencing, and report writing skills.
• Agile mindset with a team-first mentality and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
• Proven experience working cross-functionally in an enterprise setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a start-up or scale-up environment.
• Demonstrated advanced AI skills and practices.
• Experience in international expansion is a bonus.
