Senior Electrical Commissioning Technician

About the Role
The Senior Electrical Commissioning Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the effective commissioning of electrical systems within various projects across the process industry. This position requires a combination of technical expertise and hands-on experience in both high and low voltage systems, as well as the ability to lead a team of technicians in completing project deliverables on time and to high standards. The successful candidate will oversee testing and witnessing protocols, manage system handovers, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout the commissioning phase.

Key Responsibilities

• Testing & witnessing of low and high voltage distribution boards, cables, MCC, switchgear, capacitor banks, harmonic filtering, HVAC equipment, control panels, grounding systems, motors, VSD, protection relay, UPS & communication testing.
• Serve as HV & LV Isolation authority and manage Sanction for test/de-isolation within the GF PTW database.
• Lead Tri Party Sub System/System Mechanical Completion walk downs and punch list item categorization. Assist discipline engineers in compiling Livening Up Notices for subsystem/system energization.
• Manage system handover commissioning check sheet completion effectively.
• Attend Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for supplied equipment and execute drafted commissioning test procedures from a client perspective.
• Responsible for raising project punches and technical queries using the company CMS database and technical query database.
• Act as Authorised Electrical Person (AEP) for high and low voltages, following assessment by the Responsible Electrical Person and approval by the Site Controller.
• Perform duties in accordance with Permit To Work procedures.
• Ensure electrical test equipment calibration is current and maintain the company register.
• Lead a team of up to 10 commissioning discipline technicians to achieve the work scope within the defined project schedule, managing site queries, ensuring adherence to engineering design standards and satisfactory equipment operability.

Educational Qualifications

• Minimum requirement of Engineering Diploma in Instruments.

Experience Profile

• Proven track record of over 10 years of electrical experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in commissioning electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of commissioning processes, including the interpretation of single line diagrams, schematics, and engineering datasheets; commissioning of high and low voltage electrical power, distribution, and generation systems.
• Experience with Control of Work/Permit to Work processes during execution, as well as commissioning of utility and process systems.
• Proficient in system handover management and commissioning check sheet completion.

Competencies and Skills

• Valid Driving License.
• Minimum requirement of Engineering Diploma in Electrical.
• Compex (ATEX) certificate (preferred but not mandatory).
• Strong ability to analyze project-related information and communicate project status and major issues effectively, both in writing and verbally.
• Skills in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications, along with comprehending contract terms and conditions.
• Excellent communication skills, intermediate computer skills, and leadership qualities.
• Proactive communicator, able to leverage organizational resources to provide effective solutions to key client issues swiftly.
• Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and familiarity with industry project software packages/dossiers.
