Core Accountabilities

  • Leads the design and optimization of missiles, including fuselage, wings, and control surfaces.
  • Incorporates aerodynamic considerations seamlessly into the design process, ensuring balanced functionality and performance of aerospace structures.
  • Applies a deep understanding of applied aerodynamics, flight dynamics, and jet propulsion to guide and enhance design projects.
  • Utilizes control theory knowledge to ensure stability and optimize the performance of a missile.
  • Maintains deep fundamental knowledge of high-speed aerodynamics, including transonic and supersonic domains.
  • Understands the missile conceptual design process, including formulation of requirements, generation of concepts, trade-off studies, sensitivity analysis, and Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO).
  • Applies strong mathematical skills in various aspects of aerospace engineering, from design computations to simulation result interpretations.
  • Communicates complex technical information effectively, both in writing and orally, ensuring clarity and comprehension among technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Establishes infrastructure, tools, and labs.
  • Supports the chief engineer through technical contributions.
  • Mentors junior engineers, including Engineer I and Engineer II.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) industry, including at least 3 years in a senior or team lead role.
  • Knowledge of guided weapon systems is preferable.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office, MATLAB, and any CAD package (Solidworks preferred).
  • Proficient in low fidelity tools such as DATCOM and advanced simulations like ANSYS Fluent applied to missiles.
  • Working knowledge of jet propulsion systems, such as turbines and solid rocket motors, including selection, integration, and optimization.
  • Advanced knowledge of missile conceptual design.
  • Working knowledge of missile control theory.
