This role is fast-paced and technical, working at the core of Linux server systems. As an Engineering Manager on the Foundations team, you will inspire and oversee a team of engineers, shaping the future of Ubuntu while engaging with both the open source ecosystem and enterprise technologists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow a team of distributed engineers.
- Demonstrate sound engineering principles through active and hands-on leadership.
- Responsible for planning, estimation, and execution of projects.
- Collaborate with product management and cross-functional leadership to define vision and strategy for Ubuntu.
- Drive the adoption of the latest software development practices and foster a collaborative engineering culture.
- Ensure alignment on product architecture and roadmaps with other teams at Canonical.
What We Are Looking For:
- Extensive experience with Linux distributions and packaging technologies (e.g., deb, rpm).
- Proven experience managing or leading a team of software engineers.
- Strong software engineering knowledge in areas such as Linux system architecture, boot processes, and toolchains (Java, GCC, Python, Rust, Go).
- Engagement with open source communities and processes.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in English is expected.
