The Directed Energy Research Center of TII is seeking a Senior FPGA Engineer to join the Signals, Electronics, and Acoustics team. This role includes occasional overseas travel for conferences, supplier visits, or training.

Job Description:
The Senior FPGA Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and testing complex FPGA systems for scientific experimental setups or prototypes. Responsibilities include:

  • Architecting and implementing FPGA designs to solve real-world problems.
  • Defining system and project requirements.
  • Designing tests to ensure FPGA designs function as intended.
  • Developing methods to maintain high quality and performance in FPGA designs.
  • Designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining reusable IP cores and prototype FPGA systems using SystemVerilog and Verilog.
  • Optimizing FPGA designs for Power, Performance, and Area (PPA).
  • Collaborating with software engineers, hardware engineers, and project managers.
  • Writing reports and documentation including specifications and test plans.
  • Keeping up with the latest digital design methodologies and exploring new techniques.
  • Performing risk assessments and presenting designs to managers and end-users.

Skills Required:

  • Deep understanding of digital electronics concepts including clock domains, circuit design, and debugging.
  • Familiarity with high-speed digital design principles.
  • Proficiency in open-source FPGA toolchains (e.g., LiteX, Amaranth, yosys, nextpnr).
  • Fluency in Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with scripting languages for automation (Python, TCL).
  • Ability to program in embedded languages like C.
  • Proficiency in reading hardware schematics and working with PCB design tools (Altium).
  • Familiarity with basic electronics lab equipment (e.g., multimeter, oscilloscope).
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Technical writing skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other engineering field.
  • 7 years of relevant industry or academic experience.
  • Ability to prepare project definitions and plans, aligning business needs with technologies.
  • Experience executing program plans in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Methodical problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Good level of English (speaking and writing).
