Senior FPGA Engineer

Technology Innovation Institute (TII) is a publicly funded research institute in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, dedicated to pioneering research and technology prototypes that advance society. The Directed-Energy Research Centre (DERC) at TII is looking for an experienced Senior FPGA Engineer to join the Signals & Electronics R&D team. This role involves selecting, developing, and integrating FPGAs for prototypes, including low-level hardware control, high-speed links, high-level IP blocks, and custom hardware-accelerated algorithms and filters. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with world-class experts across multiple disciplines and work on innovative design applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage all phases of the prototype and product development cycle, including requirement definition, FPGA digital design, unit testing, hardware integration, and validation.
• Conduct and oversee code development, design reviews, testing, and debugging.
• Architect, develop, and integrate FPGA and CPLD solutions for end-user products.
• Support hardware and software teams in the bring-up and testing of products.
• Provide expertise in design and automated test development procedures.
• Debug and validate designs in the lab, ensuring performance, timing, and power requirements are met.

Requirements:

• Experience with Amaranth HDL, RISC V, Python, Linux.
• Familiarity with LiteX FPGA Framework and chip design tools like YoSYS, Verilator, OpenLANE, and Caravel.
• Strong foundations in digital design and communications, with at least 5 years of experience in embedded systems development.
• Relevant educational background: BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
