Senior FPGA Engineer

The Directed-Energy Research Centre (DERC) focuses on cutting-edge technologies including high-power electromagnetic solutions, innovative high-energy laser systems, advanced acoustic technologies, and more.

DERC-TII is seeking an experienced Senior FPGA Engineer to join the Signals & Electronics R&D team. The candidate will be responsible for the selection, development, and integration of FPGAs for prototypes, including low-level hardware control, high-speed links, and custom hardware-accelerated algorithms and filters. This role provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with world-class experts and work on exciting design applications.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in all phases of prototype and product development, including requirements definition, FPGA digital design, implementation, testing, integration, and validation.
• Conduct code development, design reviews, testing, debugging, and IP/hardware integration.
• Architect and integrate FPGA and CPLD solutions for end-user products.
• Perform FPGA logic design, coding, simulation, and testing.
• Collaborate with hardware and software development teams for product testing.
• Provide expertise in design and automated test development procedures.
• Debug and test designs in the lab, including synthesis, implementation, and timing analysis.
• Design and test advanced digital logic using VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL).
• Simulate digital circuits to ensure performance, timing, and power requirements.
• Debug digital systems at the circuit level.

Requirements:

• Experience with Amaranth HDL, RISC V, Python, and Linux.
• Proficient in LiteX FPGA Framework for building System-On-A-Chip (SoC).
• Familiar with YoSYS, Verilator, OpenLANE, and Caravel for FPGA and chip design.
• Strong background in Design Verification, Simulation, and Validation.
• Presence on GitHub and a track record of Open Source projects.

Qualifications:

• BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong foundation in digital design and communications.
• At least 5 years of experience in developing embedded systems with microcontrollers and microprocessors (e.g., ARM).
• Experience with processor peripheral interfaces and industry-standard protocols (e.g., PCI Express, USB, Ethernet).
• Hands-on experience with board bring-up and debugging of digital hardware.
