Position

The Directed Energy Research Center of the company is seeking a Senior FPGA Engineer to join the Signals, Electronics, and Acoustics team. This role involves occasional travel overseas for conferences, visits to suppliers or partners, and training.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a Lead Researcher and a multi-disciplinary engineering team to design, develop, integrate, and test complex FPGA systems for scientific setups or prototypes.
  • Architect and lead the implementation of FPGA designs to solve real-world problems.
  • Define system and project requirements, prepare project definitions, and design effective tests to validate FPGA designs.
  • Develop methods to ensure high quality and performance in FPGA outputs.
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain reusable IP cores and prototype FPGA systems utilizing SystemVerilog and Verilog.
  • Optimize FPGA designs for Power, Performance, and Area (PPA).
  • Work with cross-functional teams, which include software engineers, hardware engineers, and project managers.
  • Produce detailed reports and documentation regarding specifications, project budgets, milestone planning, design details, and test plans.
  • Stay updated with the latest digital design methodologies to enhance FPGA design processes.
  • Conduct risk assessments and present designs to management and end-users.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.

Skills Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of digital electronics, including clock domains, circuit design, timing analysis, testbench design, and embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with high-speed digital design, signal and power integrity, and EMI/EMC principles.
  • Proficiency in high-performance PC to FPGA interface implementations, preferably using 10Gb Ethernet, as well as PCIe and USB.
  • Experience with open-source FPGA toolchains (LiteX, Amaranth, yosys, nextpnr) and fluency in Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Competence in scripting for automation (Python, TCL) and embedded programming languages such as C.
  • Ability to read hardware schematics and use PCB design tools such as Altium.
  • Knowledge of electronics lab equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Understanding of digital signal processing techniques and familiarity with version control systems (like Git).
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, teamwork, and independent working skills, along with technical writing proficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering field.
  • 7 years of relevant experience in industry or academia.
  • Proven ability to align project definitions and planning with business needs and technologies.
  • Methodical approach to problem-solving and effective root cause analysis.
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
