As a Senior Manager for Software Development at B&R, you will lead a large team comprising Product Owners, Technical Leads, and Software Developers/Testers. You will be responsible for the development and deployment of multiple software components within the B&R software portfolio. Drawing from your extensive knowledge and experience in agile software development methodologies and modern technology stacks, you will be the driving force behind the reorganization of the Software R&D organization, working to bring a future-oriented software portfolio for industrial automation to market.
You will report to the Vice President of Product Group Software and collaborate closely with technical leaders from both software and firmware teams distributed throughout the organization. Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing a coherent software and system ecosystem, encompassing an IDE, a runtime environment for industrial real-time devices, and a digital platform.
- Ensuring seamless integration of all components by collaborating closely with hardware and software product teams, improving usability and system performance.
- Defining and enforcing best practices in software architecture and design, firmware development, and system architecture, ensuring non-functional requirements such as performance, security, scalability, and maintainability are met.
- Utilizing scalable agile methods to foster a collaborative and efficient team environment, ensuring timely delivery of integrated solutions.
- Collaborating with stakeholders across various areas to gather and validate requirements, ensuring the software ecosystem meets diverse needs.
- Leading technological decision-making processes within individual products and across the entire product portfolio to ensure alignment with overarching business goals and technological standards.
- Staying current on new technologies and methodologies that could benefit the ecosystem and driving continuous innovation and improvements.
Qualifications for the Role
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- 15-20 years of experience in software development covering multiple areas such as front-end applications, cloud services, and embedded software development, with a deep understanding of IDEs, runtime environments, and digital platforms.
- Progressive experience leading small to large teams (50+ employees) and experience managing first-level managers is essential.
- Proven capabilities in leading commercial software products, especially for B2B customers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges and make informed decisions.
- Renowned as a people manager with strong intercultural skills, demonstrated ability to work with individuals across a global R&D facility.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical audiences and persuading stakeholders in a matrix organization.
- Experience with modern software development tools, languages, and frameworks, along with transitioning teams to utilize such tools and methods.
- Excellent written and presentation skills in English; knowledge of German is an asset.
