Senior PIMS Engineer

As a key member of our organization, you will engage in system engineering and integration, manage SQL databases, oversee project delivery and commissioning, and provide customer support and technical leadership. Your expertise will play a vital role in developing state-of-the-art solutions that impact various industries.

Key Responsibilities
System Engineering and Integration

• Analyze customer requirements and develop system architectures, functional designs, tag databases, and interface specifications.
• Configure PI Data Archive, interfaces and connectors, Exaquantum, and ExaOPC; integrate plant data via OPC DA, OPC UA, and other project interfaces.
• Develop PI Asset Framework structures and templates, analyses, calculations, Event Frames, Notifications, and PI Vision dashboards.

SQL Database Management and Reporting

• Develop and optimize SQL queries, views, and stored procedures for data integration, reporting, and troubleshooting.
• Manage SQL Server databases, permissions, maintenance, backup, and recovery within the assigned scope; investigate performance and data integrity issues.
• Create operational dashboards, management reports, and historian-based KPIs; validate calculations and translate plant data into actionable operational insights.

Project Delivery and Commissioning

• Prepare design documents, architectural drawings, test procedures, configuration records, and as-built documentation.
• Lead assigned Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Site Acceptance Test (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities; resolve punch items and support customer acceptance.
• Execute historian migrations and upgrades, including data validation, cutover, and rollback planning; coordinate with DCS, networking, cybersecurity, and vendor teams.

Customer Support and Technical Leadership

• Independently manage customer technical discussions and site assignments, coordinating with ADNOC stakeholders as applicable.
• Troubleshoot live historian, OPC, interface, reporting, database, and performance issues; document root causes and corrective actions.
• Support ALMS integration and reporting within the project scope; provide post-commissioning optimization, user training, and handover.
• Review engineering deliverables, guide junior engineers, and maintain technical quality; follow approved site safety, cybersecurity, and change-control procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Instrumentation and Control, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in PIMS, industrial historians, or plant information systems, with project experience in Oil & Gas, refining, petrochemicals, or utilities.
• Proven involvement across the project lifecycle, from requirements and detailed engineering through testing, commissioning, handover, and support.
• Demonstrated ability to independently engineer and troubleshoot PI and Exaquantum solutions and communicate directly with customers.

Essential Technical Skills

• OSIsoft PI System: hands-on knowledge of PI Data Archive, Asset Framework, PI Analysis, Event Frames, Notifications, PI Vision, interfaces, and connectors.
• Company platforms: hands-on configuration, integration, and troubleshooting of Exaquantum and ExaOPC; working knowledge of ALMS and related plant information applications.
• SQL and Database Management: strong practical skills in Microsoft SQL Server, complex queries, joins, views, stored procedures, indexing, query optimization, permissions, and backup/recovery.
• Industrial Data Integration: OPC DA and OPC UA, interface diagnostics, tag mapping, buffering, timestamp synchronization, and data quality validation.
• Server Administration: Windows Server installation, services, accounts, permissions, and troubleshooting; familiarity with virtualized server environments.
• Historian Reliability: system health monitoring, capacity and performance assessment, backup and recovery, and redundancy or failover validation where included in the design.
• Engineering Delivery: requirements gathering, technical documentation, test execution, defect resolution, and configuration management.
• Process Understanding: ability to interpret plant operating data and translate process requirements into useful trends, reports, and performance indicators.

• Work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership of assigned deliverables and technical issues through closure.
• Communicate clearly in written and spoken English, lead technical discussions, and prepare accurate customer-facing documentation.
• Apply structured troubleshooting, sound engineering judgment, and attention to detail in live operational environments.
• Collaborate across disciplines, manage priorities, and support project site commissioning assignments as required.

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on site commissioning and FAT leadership for ADNOC or other major Oil & Gas operators in the UAE or wider GCC.
• Legacy historian migration to PI or Exaquantum, major upgrades, and troubleshooting of operational production systems.
• Administration of VMware or Hyper-V environments, and practical ALMS implementation or alarm reporting experience.
