Senior Product Owner - Fraud and Transaction Monitoring

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Product Owner to build how we detect and prevent fraud and money laundering as we expand into new financial products and markets. You will own the roadmap for fraud prevention and transaction monitoring, which includes the rules, models, and systems that flag risky activity as well as the tools that teams use to review it. You’ll leverage AI to automate routine alerts, allowing team members to focus on cases that genuinely require human intervention. Collaboration will be essential as you work closely with Compliance, Operations, Data, Engineering, and the Financial Investigation Unit. This is a new capability, so you'll have the opportunity to shape it from the ground up and eventually build the team that will run it.

Responsibilities:

• Own and prioritize the product roadmap for fraud prevention and transaction monitoring within the agreed financial crime strategy.
• Translate fraud threats, money laundering risk scenarios, and control requirements into clear product requirements, detection logic, and acceptance criteria.
• Lead the development of rules, models, and preventive controls in collaboration with Engineering, Data, Operations, and Compliance. Utilize AI and machine learning where they demonstrably improve detection, prevention, and case handling.
• Establish reliable and timely data inputs for detection; identify gaps in data quality, availability, or coverage and prioritize their resolution.
• Evaluate proposed controls using historical data and realistic test scenarios; assess detection coverage, missed activity, false positives, and the impact on legitimate customers.
• Deliver changes through the approved process, ensuring clear testing, staged rollout, monitoring, and rollback plans.
• Measure performance post-release, including fraud losses, detection effectiveness, and customer friction, using findings to improve controls without equating fewer alerts with success.
• Adapt fraud prevention and transaction monitoring capabilities to emerging threats, new products, markets, and transaction types. Make readiness requirements and unresolved coverage gaps visible before launch.
• Coordinate delivery across product teams and control owners, clarifying priorities, dependencies, and trade-offs while escalating decisions that require accountable leadership.

Requirements:

• 5+ years in product ownership or product management, including end-to-end ownership of a product roadmap at a senior level.
• Strong financial crime experience encompassing both fraud and money laundering, ideally gained in fintech, banking, payments, or another regulated business.
• Hands-on experience in building detection capabilities such as rules, models, or transaction monitoring systems.
• Experience using AI or automation to decrease manual alert reviews while maintaining oversight of complex cases.
• Strong data skills with an understanding of data sources and reliability, and the ability to evaluate detection effectiveness using historical data, coverage, and false-positive analysis.
• Proven experience releasing changes to live controls safely, with a focus on testing, staged rollout, monitoring, and rollback processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, particularly in collaborating with Compliance and control owners throughout approval processes.
• Experience in building or growing a product team is desirable.
