About the Role
We are seeking a Senior QA Engineer to take ownership of product quality across our platform. In this role, you will be accountable for ensuring that every release meets our established quality standards and for making informed go/no-go release decisions based on risk and test results.
You will define the most suitable QA approach for our product and teams, which includes the testing strategy, tools, standards, and workflows. This approach should be adaptable to fit each situation, whether it's an urgent hotfix, a major feature launch, or a high-risk change.
This is a hands-on position that includes both manual and automated testing. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and DevOps teams to review requirements, define test strategies, perform manual and exploratory testing, and build reliable test automation using Playwright. Furthermore, you will analyze root causes of defects and implement preventive measures to reduce recurring issues.

Responsibilities
- Own quality end-to-end, incorporating it early through requirement reviews, design discussions, and test strategy, culminating in the final go/no-go decision on releases.
- Define and continuously refine the QA approach, including testing standards, workflows, tools, and quality metrics. Adapt testing depth, process, and priorities to risk, timeline, and context rather than applying a one-size-fits-all process.
- Decide on testing requirements, including depth, approach (functional, regression, API, UI, performance, security, usability), and determine what needs to remain manual versus what is automated.
- Conduct thorough manual and exploratory testing on new features, identifying edge cases, unexpected user behavior, UX problems, and UI details that affect user experience.
- Build and maintain Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript) automation that runs in CI, catching genuine issues instead of merely increasing test count, while providing the team with rapid, reliable feedback.
- Properly review code and pull requests by actively engaging with them, questioning inaccuracies, and pushing back on issues where necessary.
- Triage defects and investigate them in-depth using browser DevTools (network, console, performance, storage) to determine root causes rather than symptoms, assisting the team in prioritizing significant issues.
- Prevent recurring issues by recognizing patterns behind bugs, analyzing defect trends, and implementing safeguards such as tests, checks, and process alterations. Anticipate how new features, scale, and changes will impact quality.
- Utilize AI tools thoughtfully to expedite test creation, analysis, and debugging, and establish AI-assisted workflows where they add value, while maintaining validation of the output.
- Clearly communicate risks to developers, product managers, and leadership, providing recommendations instead of merely reporting.
- Take the initiative to identify gaps in processes, tools, or products and drive improvements, while mentoring other QA engineers and fostering a quality mindset across the team.
Requirements
- 5+ years of QA experience with significant ownership of releases and quality decisions.
- Strong experience in both manual and automated testing, possessing the judgment to balance the two.
- Solid JavaScript and TypeScript skills, sufficient to write clean, maintainable Playwright automation and read application code confidently.
- Hands-on experience with Playwright or substantial experience with a similar framework along with a willingness to specialize in Playwright.
- Strong command of Git and GitHub: branching, pull requests, code reviews, and functioning within CI pipelines.
- Deep understanding of various testing types, techniques, and test design, coupled with the judgment to select the appropriate methods.
- The flexibility to adjust your approach based on different situations, avoiding rigid processes while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Experience testing web, mobile, and APIs.
- Proficiency in using browser DevTools for debugging and investigative purposes.
- Practical experience utilizing AI in work processes, along with the critical thinking skills to discern when to trust AI outputs.
- A preventive mindset: focused on fixing root problems instead of merely addressing symptoms, with illustrative examples.
