The IS team supports and maintains Canonical's IT production services, overseeing services for over 60 million Ubuntu users. In this role, you will focus on automating operations in both private and public clouds, utilize open-source infrastructure as code software, and implement software development practices such as CI/CD pipelines. You’ll be part of a global team of SREs, collaborating to provide outstanding services to our company, customers, and the Ubuntu Community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of automation and GitOps within your team.
- Collaborate with IS architects to align solutions with architectural vision.
- Design services offered by IS as products and apply infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.
- Automate software operations for consistency across various cloud environments.
- Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot, plan capacity, and investigate performance issues, utilizing observability tools.
- Engage with globally distributed teams in engineering, operations, and support.
- Share knowledge and best practices through mentorship and collaborative work.
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of modern hosting architecture driven by IaC.
- Product-focused mindset with Python software development experience.
- Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration systems.
- Proven skills in managing and deploying cloud infrastructure through code.
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking and systems.
- Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related engineering field.
- Proficient communication skills in English across multiple mediums.
- Motivation to troubleshoot complex issues and provide innovative solutions.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing environments.
- An appreciation for open-source technologies, especially Ubuntu or Debian.

- Proficient in English (ability to communicate clearly over email, chat, video, and in-person).
