We are hiring a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to join our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is perfect for an automation-focused senior technologist with a passion for Linux, allowing you to drive automation practices in private and public clouds using open source infrastructure as code and software development practices like CI/CD pipelines.
As a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer, you will:
- Drive the development of automation and Gitops practices within your team as a tech lead.
- Collaborate closely with the IS architect to align solutions with the IS architecture vision.
- Design and architect services that IS can provide as products.
- Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles to enhance automation practices.
- Automate software operations for consistency across private and public clouds.
- Maintain operational responsibility for Canonical's core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Develop troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance investigation skills.
- Use observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch to maintain monitoring and alerting.
- Work with globally distributed engineering, operations, and support teams.
- Share your expertise and best practices with team members through mentorship and collaborative work.
- Handle time-critical escalations.
Requirements:
- Strong perspective on hosting architecture driven by IaC across private and public clouds.
- Product mindset focused on developing products rather than just solutions.
- Python software development experience with large projects.
- Experience with container orchestration systems like Kubernetes.
- Proven ability to manage and deploy cloud infrastructure with code.
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
- Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
- Proficient in English communication over various platforms (email, chat, video calls).
- Motivated to troubleshoot complex systems and eager to learn.
- Familiarity with open-source software, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
