The IS team supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services, which are used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. As a Senior SRE & Gitops Engineer, you will drive operations automation both in our private and public clouds using infrastructure as code (IaC), and best practices such as CI/CD pipelines. Your role will encompass defining infrastructure as code, improving Canonical products through critical feedback, and collaborating across teams globally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the development of automation and GitOps within your team as a tech lead.
- Collaborate with the IS architect to align solutions with the IS architecture vision.
- Design and architect services that IS can offer as products.
- Enhance IaC practices by increasing automation and improving processes.
- Automate software operations for re-usability across cloud environments.
- Maintain operational responsibility for Canonical's core services and infrastructure.
- Develop troubleshooting skills and use observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
- Mentor and share best practices with team members.
- Handle time-critical escalations.
Requirements:
- Modern view on hosting architecture driven by IaC across both cloud environments.
- Product mindset aimed at developing products.
- Python software development experience with large projects.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration systems.
- Proven experience in managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code.
- Knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
- Experience with enterprise Linux servers.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related engineering field.
- Fluent in English, with effective communication skills across various formats.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in fast-changing environments.
- Passion for open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
