The ML Platform & GenAI Applications team at Careem focuses on the integration of engineering, data science, and product innovation. This team develops core tooling that allows various verticals, such as Ride-Hailing, Food, Groceries, and Pay, to deliver intelligent, delightful experiences powered by Machine Learning and Generative AI.
As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will serve as a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing distributed systems, enhancing new GenAI workflows, and ensuring that product teams can transition smoothly from prototype to production while adhering to Careem's standards for reliability, cost-efficiency, and responsible AI.
Work Conditions: Full-time, 4 days in office & 1 day from home, with options to work remotely from any country for 30 days a year. Unlimited vacation days.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build reusable services, APIs, and workflows to facilitate the prototyping, testing, and launching of GenAI-driven features.
- Co-create flagship GenAI applications, such as RAG-powered help-centre answers and marketplace-level demand forecasting assistants.
- Maintain platform reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness while implementing new features like prompt versioning and model evaluation dashboards.
- Promote MLOps and Responsible AI by establishing guardrails, monitoring, and safe-launch practices to ensure confidence in production experiments.
- Mentor teammates through design reviews, workshops, and internal demonstrations.
- Collaborate with designers, product managers, and data scientists to translate product ideas into concrete engineering tasks.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development with a solid foundation in principles and design practices.
- Strong expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, or similar.
- Experience with GenAI and ML platforms, including fine-tuning transformers and managing embeddings.
- Familiarity with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Milvus, Weaviate) and model-aware search.
- Knowledge of software design, networking, security, observability, and CI/CD practices.
- Experience with cloud control planes (AWS, GCP, etc.) and database internals, including query optimization.
- Proven ability to drive projects from inception to production, as well as mentor other engineers.
- Experience with ML platforms and MLOps is essential.
