Senior Software Engineer II

Since 2012, Careem has created earnings for over 2.5 million Captains and simplified the lives of over 70 million customers across more than 70 cities in 10 countries.

Location: Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Work Conditions: Full-time, 4 days a week in office & 1 day from home; remote work allowed from any country in the world for 30 days a year; unlimited vacation days. For individual contributor roles in tech, 2 office days a week and 3 days to work from home.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and operate large-scale infrastructure, including container platforms and release pipelines.
• Implement and enhance infrastructure and observability to improve service reliability.
• Create automation and tooling for streamlined infrastructure operations and developer workflows.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure compliance with availability, security, and observability standards.
• Write and review high-quality, performant, and reliable code.
• Mentor team members through code reviews and design discussions while promoting continuous improvement.
• Improve team processes through agile practices and engineering excellence.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of professional software development experience, including 3 years in systems or platform engineering roles.
• Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Golang or Python (mandatory).
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices (coding standards, code reviews, source control management, etc.).
• Proven experience in designing and operating distributed systems in cloud environments.
• Strong knowledge of production operations, metrics, safe deployments, and incident response.
• Experience with Linux-based systems and container orchestration at scale.
• Strong communication skills and experience with cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience with Golang and AWS.
• Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
