About This Role: By applying, candidates will be considered for multiple similar positions within Careem across several teams, and successful applicants will be matched to the role that suits their skills and preferences best. What You'll Do: - Collaborate with engineers across various teams to architect and build highly scalable backend applications and services. - Write and review high-quality, performant, and reliable code. - Continuously improve the quality and reliability of services and refine team patterns and principles. - Act as a subject matter expert in your area and work closely with Product Managers to understand and refine functional specifications. - Mentor and guide junior team members. - Participate in on-call rotation and assist in incident resolution within defined SLAs. - Engage in team agile and engineering practices and lead their continuous evolution. What You’ll Need: - 7+ years of professional software development experience. - 3+ years of experience in designing and architecting new and existing services. - 2+ years of mentoring experience for software engineers. - Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and microservices. - Experience in building CI/CD pipelines (preferably with GitHub Actions). - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. - Extensive experience with modern programming languages such as Java, Golang, or Kotlin. - Experience designing and building large-scale distributed applications in a cloud environment. - Knowledge of production systems, metrics, and reliable deployment processes. - Solid understanding of software engineering best practices (coding standards, reviews, source control, testing, and operations). Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with Java Spring, Golang, and AWS. - Familiarity with Kafka and container technology (Docker, Kubernetes). - Experience in a fast-paced start-up environment. Work Conditions: Full-time, 4 days in office & 1 day from home; ability to work remotely from any country for 30 days a year; unlimited vacation days. For individual contributors in tech, 2 office days and 3 work from home.
