Key Responsibilities
- Write production-ready code and understand the pipeline and chart that ship it.
- Write low-level designs that other engineers can build from, and represent the team in architecture reviews.
- Threat-model each feature, designing authentication, authorization, and data handling from the start.
- Instrument before release, participate in on-call duty, and drive faults to root causes.
- Identify technical gaps early, propose fixes with associated costs and benefits, and utilize AI tooling.
- Mentor engineers, maintain standards on tests and error handling, and interview candidates.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Spring Security, including debugging JVM and Spring issues from thread dumps, heap dumps, and traces.
- Experience designing and operating microservices for client traffic, with API versioning and comprehensive testing (unit, integration, contract, and load).
- Skills in designing for failure and scale, including idempotency, retries, circuit breakers, and caching; capable of diagnosing bottlenecks with data.
- Strong relational data modeling and query design skills, primarily in MySQL, including schema and index tuning proven under load.
- Security-first mindset: familiarity with OWASP Top 10, authentication and authorization practices, secrets management, and data handling.
- Ability to write designs that other engineers can build from and review peers’ designs effectively.
- Experience with deploying and running services on Kubernetes using Docker, Helm, AWS, and CI/CD; capable of debugging failed deployments from the chart or pipeline.
- Ownership of a change from design through on-call, ensuring instrumentation to expose faults before client reports are made.
Nice to Have
- Experience with reactive Java in production: Spring WebFlux, Project Reactor, RxJava, or Vert.x.
- Familiarity with MNO and telco integrations, including number insight, SIM swap, and other network signals.
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization standards such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML, FIDO, or WebAuthn.
- Background in shipping technology in banking, payments, or other regulated industries, with experience facing audits or client security reviews.
- Experience running services against contractual uptime commitments, including SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
- Experience with Kafka in production, including diagnosis of consumer lag or rebalance issues.
- Proficiency in managing infrastructure as code with Terraform.
