Key Responsibilities
- Write production-ready code and understand the pipeline and charts that ship it.
- Develop low-level designs for other engineers to build from, and represent the team in architecture reviews.
- Conduct threat modeling for each feature and design authentication, authorization, and data handling from the start.
- Instrument systems before release, take turns on call, and drive faults to root causes.
- Identify technical gaps early, propose fixes with associated costs and benefits, and leverage AI tooling.
- Mentor engineers, uphold standards for tests and error handling, and participate in candidate interviews.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Spring Security, including debugging JVM and Spring issues from thread dumps, heap dumps, and traces.
- Design and operate microservices for client traffic, along with API versioning and testing across unit, integration, contract, and load tests.
- Capable of designing for failure and scale, implementing idempotency, retries, circuit breakers, and caching, and diagnosing bottlenecks with data analysis.
- Strong skills in relational data modeling and query design, especially in MySQL, with proven experience in schema and index tuning under load.
- Incorporate security as a design input considering OWASP Top 10, authentication and authorization, secrets management, and data handling.
- Create designs that other engineers can build from and review peer designs effectively.
- Deploy and manage services on Kubernetes with Docker, Helm, AWS, and CI/CD while debugging failed deployments from the chart or pipeline.
- Take ownership of changes from design through on-call support, ensuring that instruments highlight faults before clients report them.
Nice to Have
- Experience with reactive Java in production, such as Spring WebFlux, Project Reactor, RxJava, or Vert.x.
- Familiarity with MNO and telco integrations, including number insights, SIM swapping, and other network signals.
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization standards such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML, FIDO, or WebAuthn.
- Experience shipping products in banking, payments, or other regulated industries, along with familiarity with audits or client security reviews.
- Knowledge of running services against contractual uptime commitments including SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
- Experience running Kafka in production and diagnosing consumer lag or rebalance issues.
- Proficient in managing infrastructure as code using Terraform.
