Position

The company is a publicly funded research institute based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, focusing on pioneering research and technology. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer who specializes in embedded security and real-time firmware. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining embedded software for a physical tamper-detection system that detects and responds to physical intrusion on printed circuit boards (PCBs). You will work with low-power microcontrollers (MCUs) to build sensing, boot-security, and tamper-response software aimed at protecting cryptographic materials and maintaining mission integrity.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain real-time firmware in C/C++ on ARM Cortex-M class MCUs under Zephyr RTOS, optimized for ultra-low-power operation.
  • Implement secure boot chains, signed firmware images, and update mechanisms to ensure that only authentic code runs.
  • Create tamper-response logic, conduct sensor signal processing, and integrate firmware with host systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware, security, and systems teams to validate end-to-end integration.
  • Contribute to security engineering practices and compliance with hardware-security standards.

Necessary Knowledge and Experience:

  • 5-8 years in embedded software development, especially in defense or aerospace sectors.
  • Proficient in C/C++ and experienced with ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers, Zephyr RTOS (or similar).
  • Strong skills in digital signal processing, sensor signal processing, and embedded security.
  • Experience in low-power design and secure development practices.

Education and Certification Requirements:

  • BSc or MSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
  • Exposure to cryptographic-module security certification is a plus.

Language Requirements:

  • Strong English communication skills are essential.
