The VMware Senior Engineer is a critical component of the support infrastructure and is responsible for delivering a high level of technical support to customers. This role involves owning complex customer issues which may require extended resolution times, while ensuring continuous communication with customers throughout the process. The engineer will be tasked with the engineering, design, and development of hardware, software, and networking systems and will implement standards for operating system support.
Key responsibilities include analyzing system performance and conducting usability testing to enhance scalability, performance reliability, and security compliance. The engineer is expected to proactively identify potential challenges for customers and recommend alternative solutions to enhance stability and security. Responsibilities
- Support VMware virtualization solutions in accordance with business requirements.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware Cloud Platform and vSphere infrastructure.
- Develop SDN networks in NSX-T and integrate them with physical Cisco ACI networks.
- Provide load balancing as a service through NSX-ALB integrated with vCenter and VMware Cloud Director.
- Analyze problems to identify root causes, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions.
- Monitor system performance and optimize configurations for maximum efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in virtual environments.
- Monitor infrastructure capacity and optimize resources.
- Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Manage access controls, permissions, and security settings within VMware environments.
- Create and manage backup and recovery solutions for virtualized environments.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for VMware infrastructure.
- Produce technical documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Generate regular reports on system performance, capacity, and utilization.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate VMware solutions with existing systems.
- Provide technical support for VMware infrastructure issues.
- Mentor team members and offer technical guidance as needed.
- Lead customer-facing and internal project calls, providing technical direction and managing escalations.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience with VMware technologies including NSX-T, vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, VMware Cloud Director, Aria Operations, and related tools.
- Experience managing large-scale private cloud environments or working within a cloud service provider is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of virtualization concepts, architecture, and best practices.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and management tasks.
- Solid knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching).
- Experience with network security practices, firewalls, and access control lists within VMware environments.
- Familiarity with network virtualization and software-defined networking (SDN) concepts.
- Knowledge of storage and server technologies related to virtualization.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Preferred certifications: VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV), VMware Specialist - Cloud Provider, or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP).
