About the Role
The position involves leading the development, evaluation, and implementation of Corporate Credit Policies and Programs, while managing the end-to-end credit lifecycle across assigned Corporate Banking portfolios. The role requires structuring complex credit facilities through direct engagement with Corporate Banking clients and relationship teams, focusing on a designated sector or a combination of industry sectors. The incumbent must possess the expertise to independently assess and manage credit exposures across various industries, ensuring strong risk governance, effective portfolio oversight, and seamless stakeholder management across Business, Legal, Compliance, Audit, Operations, and other internal and external partners, while aligning with the company's risk appetite and regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end credit lifecycle for Corporate Banking portfolios, including underwriting, approval, monitoring, and remediation of credit exposures.
  • Drive the development and implementation of corporate lending frameworks, including sector-agnostic credit policies, procedures, and underwriting standards.
  • Partner with Corporate Banking teams to structure optimal credit solutions for clients per the company's risk appetite.
  • Provide credit advisory to Relationship Managers on transaction structuring, considering sector-specific risk dynamics and market conditions.
  • Evaluate and approve complex credit proposals, including bilateral, syndicated, structured, and project-linked facilities.
  • Oversee portfolio-level risks and guide appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure effective stakeholder management for seamless credit facility implementation and monitoring.
  • Maintain and enhance Corporate Credit Policy Manuals; undertake credit due diligence for new product or sector-specific initiatives.
  • Support Corporate Banking business growth through timely and compliant setup of credit facilities.
  • Monitor portfolio quality and ensure adherence to approved credit terms and regulatory expectations.
  • Accountable for overall credit risk oversight and management of the assigned Corporate Banking lending portfolio.

  • Translate the company's Risk and Corporate Banking strategy into a Corporate Credit framework aligned with portfolio growth objectives and defined risk appetite.
  • Drive the strategic direction of the corporate lending portfolio within the designated industry vertical or combination of sectors.
  • Enable sustainable business growth by supporting structured credit solutions tailored to evolving client financing needs.
  • Provide strategic oversight on sector-specific credit exposures for alignment with portfolio diversification objectives.
  • Lead Corporate Credit initiatives, including portfolio monitoring enhancements, sector risk frameworks, and policy digitization programs.
  • Drive continuous improvement in underwriting standards and sector-based risk assessment frameworks.

Credit Policy & Governance

  • Formulate, maintain, and seek approval for Corporate Credit Policies to facilitate business growth while managing portfolio risk.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Banking teams in the preparation, review, and modification of credit policies based on sectoral dynamics, macroeconomic developments, and emerging risks.
  • Participate in review groups for enhancing credit policies, underwriting standards, and procedural frameworks.
  • Ensure Corporate Credit Manuals and underwriting standards are periodically reviewed in line with regulatory developments.

Portfolio Oversight & Risk Management

  • Accountable for the quality and performance sustainability of the Corporate Credit portfolio within assigned sector coverage.
  • Ensure maintenance of portfolio quality, minimizing adverse impact on Group profitability.
  • Minimize credit migration through proactive portfolio surveillance and timely intervention.
  • Implement early warning detection frameworks to identify emerging credit risks and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Ensure adherence to approved risk appetite across various exposures and concentrations.
  • Conduct robust portfolio monitoring through periodic reviews and stress testing.

Credit Underwriting Governance

  • Oversee underwriting standards and credit decisioning across corporate lending propositions.
  • Evaluate and process credit proposals across various lending facilities.
  • Maintain high-quality credit appraisals to minimize proposed rejections by Credit Committees.
  • Monitor turnaround time for credit processing per service level agreements.
  • Ensure adequate support for business origination without compromising underwriting standards.

Business Engagement & Market Awareness

  • Partner with Relationship Managers to structure financing solutions aligned to client requirements.
  • Accompany Relationship Teams on client calls to maintain awareness of market conditions.
  • Provide credit advisory on transaction structuring with consideration of financial profile and industry outlook.

Committee Participation & Governance

  • Attend Credit Committee meetings and provide sector-specific insights for informed credit decisions.
  • Ensure proposals meet internal underwriting standards.
  • Contribute to discussions on portfolio performance and credit risk mitigation strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • MBA, CA, CFA, FRM, or equivalent qualification in Finance, Banking, or Risk Management preferred.
  • Minimum 15-20 years of relevant banking experience, with 5-7 years in a managerial role preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of Corporate Banking lending products and sector-specific credit risk dynamics.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and credit risk governance standards.
  • Excellent analytical skills for credit proposals and portfolio risk trends assessment.
  • Ability to manage multiple portfolios and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective engagement with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability to mentor underwriting teams and foster a strong credit culture.
