Position

We are hiring a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to join our Information Systems (IS) team. As part of the IS team, you'll support and maintain all of Canonical's IT production services, managing services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. You will drive operations automation in private and public clouds using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical's products for software operation automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop infrastructure as code practices within IS, increasing automation and improving processes.
  • Automate software operations for re-usability and consistency across clouds.
  • Develop new features and enhance the resilience and scalability of Canonical's cloud and container portfolio.
  • Maintain operational responsibility for all core services, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot, plan capacity, and investigate performance issues using observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Collaborate with development teams on service architecture, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Provide assistance to globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers.
  • Mentor team members and share best practices.
  • Handle time-critical escalations.

Qualifications:

  • Deep experience in defining operations in code using version control, peer review, and CI/CD for application and infrastructure changes.
  • Strong engineering background in modern practices (peer-review, unit testing, Agile).
  • Python software development experience, particularly with large projects.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related engineering field.
  • Strong English communication skills over various mediums.
  • Motivated and able to troubleshoot across systems, willing to seek help when needed.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to fast-changing environments.
  • Passionate about open-source technologies, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
