We are currently seeking a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to join our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is an opportunity for an "automation-first" technologist passionate about Linux. You will help drive the success of those utilizing Ubuntu and open source products. If you have experience in IT operations automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and a strong enthusiasm for technology, you will thrive in this position.

The IS team supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services, responsible for services utilized by over 60 million Ubuntu users. As a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer, you will advance operations automation, work with private and public clouds, and enhance our operational capabilities using open source tools, software development practices, and Canonical's products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance infrastructure as code practices within IS, focusing on automation.
  • Automate software operations for consistency across private and public clouds.
  • Improve resilience and scalability of existing cloud and container services.
  • Maintain operational responsibility for Canonical's core services and infrastructure.
  • Utilize observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch for monitoring.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design architecture, documentation, and policies.
  • Participate in globally distributed engineering and operations initiatives.
  • Share expertise and best practices through mentorship and collaborative sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Deep experience in defining operations as code, utilizing version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
  • Strong background in engineering (peer-review, unit testing, Agile methodologies).
  • Python software development experience, particularly with large projects.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
  • Proficient communication skills in English, capable of effective collaboration via various channels.
  • Motivated to troubleshoot and learn quickly in fast-changing environments.
  • Passionate about open-source technologies, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
