We are hiring a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer for our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is ideal for an "automation-first" technologist with a passion for Linux, looking to drive success with those leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. The IS team supports all IT production services and is responsible for running systems used by over 60 million Ubuntu users.

As a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer, you will enhance operations automation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, develop new features, improve cloud systems, maintain core services, and collaborate with global teams. This position requires a strong foundation in modern engineering practices, cloud computing concepts, and Python software development.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply IaC to develop processes and increase automation within IS.
  • Automate software operations for consistency across private and public clouds.
  • Enhance resilience and scalability of Canonical's existing cloud and container portfolio.
  • Maintain operational responsibility for core services and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and document service architecture.
  • Mentor team members and share best practices.

Requirements:

  • Deep experience in defining operations in code, using version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
  • Strong background in modern engineering practices, including Agile.
  • Python development experience with large projects.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking and firewalls.
  • Experience in administering enterprise Linux servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • English communication skills.
  • Motivation to troubleshoot complex issues and a willingness to learn new skills.

Language Requirements:

  • Able to communicate effectively in English over various platforms.
