We are seeking a Software Architect for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud. The goal is to facilitate seamless operations of clusters of compute using system containers or virtual machines, making it straightforward to establish a small cloud regardless of the scale. The role presents challenges in distributed systems, virtualisation, container technology, networking, and storage.
As a Software Architect, you will lead the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD, a modern Golang system container and virtual machine orchestrator, as well as Canonical MicroCloud, which integrates LXD with Ceph and OVN to create a reliable, user-friendly cluster-scale cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the architecture of the LXD and MicroCloud projects
- Mentor and guide colleagues in their professional development
- Develop software in Golang and C
- Review code from other engineers
- Ensure product security and performance
- Provide technical leadership within Canonical and our communities
Requirements:
- Exceptional academic background in Computer Science or a STEM field
- Proven track record of exceeding expectations and demonstrating technical leadership
- Well-organized, self-motivated, and able to meet deadlines
- Experience with Go and C programming languages
- Familiarity with storage, networking, virtualization, and container technologies
- Knowledge of concurrent and distributed systems
- Professional written and spoken English is required
- Experience with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu)
