About the Job: Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, recognized for our platform, Ubuntu, which is extensively utilized in public cloud initiatives, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We serve some of the world's foremost public cloud and silicon providers, alongside industry leaders in various sectors. We are seeking a Software Architect for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud, aiming to simplify the creation of compute clusters with system containers or virtual machines. This role encompasses a complex challenge in distributed systems, virtualization, container technology, networking, and storage. The architect will spearhead the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD, a modern Golang system container and virtual machine orchestrator widely used on Ubuntu and other Linux platforms. The position demands an outstanding software architect and engineer with expertise in Golang and C, capable of leading a team to deliver exceptional products. Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure, APIs, and underlying technologies is essential. This role provides an opportunity to significantly impact modern cloud computing technologies.

Key Responsibilities: - Lead the architecture of the LXD and MicroCloud systems - Mentor and support colleagues in their career progression - Develop in Golang and C - Review code from other engineers - Ensure security and performance of the product - Display technical leadership within Canonical and the community
Qualifications: - Exceptional academic background in Computer Science or STEM - Experience with Golang and C - Knowledge of storage, networking, virtualization, and container technologies - Familiarity with concurrent and distributed systems - Detail-oriented with a focus on performance - Proficient in professional written and spoken English - Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
