About The Role:
We are looking for a Software Architect (Payments) to join our team at a pivotal time when we are enhancing and scaling our next-generation payment systems. In this high-impact role, you will oversee backend architecture and make critical technical decisions across various squads, directly influencing the technical direction of our payments platform.
You will act as a technical architectural bridge between the Chief Architect and engineering execution, translating product intentions into robust, scalable payment systems. This role requires a thorough understanding of the payment ecosystem, including transaction flows, card schemes, and compliance.
What You'll Do:
- Platform Architecture & Ownership: Design and evolve systems for Merchant Management, POS, and eCommerce acceptance with an emphasis on high throughput and reliability.
- Technical Direction Across Squads: Provide architectural guidance and design standards across multiple teams, ensuring overall technical coherence.
- Product & Business Alignment: Collaborate with Product Owners to ensure system designs meet product and regulatory requirements.
- Protocol, Integration & Hands-on Engineering: Define integration architecture, contribute to Java microservice components, and resolve complex production challenges.
- API & Event-Driven Architecture: Design REST/JSON APIs and drive event-driven processes, ensuring the systems are operable and diagnosable.
- AI-Augmented Engineering: Leverage AI tools for architecture reviews and automate repetitive tasks to streamline processes.
What We're Looking For:
- 12 to 15 years of backend or platform engineering experience, particularly in production card payment systems at licensed Fintech or similar institutions.
- Expert-level proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, with strong skills in microservices design and production API development.
- Deep knowledge of ISO 8583 and payment messaging with practical experience in transaction lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated experience with payment gateways and processors, including tokenisation and back-office reconciliation.
- Familiarity with RabbitMQ or Kafka for designing reliable transaction event flows.
- Experience with Dubbo or a comparable RPC framework for inter-service communication.
CORE TECHNOLOGY STACK:
- Required: Java, Spring Boot, ISO 8583, jPOS, MPGS, Cybersource, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis, REST APIs, Microservices, MySQL, MongoDB.
- Strong Asset: Azure, AWS, 3DS (EMV 3DS 2.x), EMV Tokenisation, Visa/Mastercard Integration, CI/CD.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in English is required, with additional languages seen as an asset.
