Software Engineer - Cloud Images

The company is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems for the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in various initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We work with top-tier public cloud and silicon providers, and our workforce is distributed across 75+ countries, with very few office-based roles.

We are hiring a Software Engineer to focus on Linux, cloud infrastructure, pipelines, automation, and open source software. You will collaborate with leading cloud partners like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google to enhance Ubuntu as a premier cloud platform. The role includes developing build systems using Python, Jenkins, and shell, implementing cloud features within Ubuntu Server, managing continuous delivery pipelines, and engaging directly with partners.

Responsibilities:

• Build automated, reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines.
• Design and integrate new features into Ubuntu for public cloud users.
• Collaborate with a distributed team to produce high-quality code.
• Debug and enhance existing systems and troubleshoot issues.
• Participate in code reviews and design discussions.
• Work from home with global travel required 2 to 4 weeks per year for events.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
• Practical experience with public clouds.
• Interest and experience in at least three of the following: containers (Docker, Kubernetes), DevOps automation, open source projects, APIs, Linux systems administration, Python packaging, cloud-based applications.
• Experience in Python software development on Linux.
