We are hiring a Software Engineer for the Sustaining Engineering team, which plays a critical role in resolving complex issues within the Linux-based software-defined infrastructure stack. This includes bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker, LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph, Linux filesystems), and networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), extending up to OpenStack and Kubernetes. This role provides an opportunity for a technologist with a passion for Linux and open source to build a fulfilling career at the company, contributing to customer and community success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
  • Collaborate closely with the company's field, support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities, developing fixes, backporting patches, and ensuring integration upstream.
  • Review code from other engineers and maintain clear technical communications.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and contribute to team process improvements.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Professional experience as a software engineer with a strong background in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Significant experience with Linux, OpenStack, Kubernetes, or other cloud technologies.
  • Development-level proficiency in Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using tools like gdb.
  • Familiarity with git source code management.
  • An exceptional academic track record.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Passion for technology and collaboration with talented individuals.
  • Curiosity and flexibility in work approach.
  • Interest and experience with Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and distributed systems.
