We are hiring a Software Engineer for Sustaining Engineering. This position is a fast-paced engineering role focused on Linux-based software-defined infrastructure and applications. Responsibilities include addressing all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker, LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), as well as OpenStack and Kubernetes. The role offers an opportunity for individuals passionate about Linux and open source to build a career with the company while driving success for our customers and the community.

Our engineers are tasked with resolving critical issues in the open-source stack, necessitating software engineering for upstream fixes. Responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
  • Maintaining close working relationships with the company's field, support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participating in upstream communities and developing fixes.
  • Reviewing code from other engineers and demonstrating good judgment in technical methods.
  • Prioritizing work and managing time effectively.

Ideal candidates should have:

  • Professional experience as a software engineer.
  • Strong background in Computer Science, STEM, or related fields.
  • Solid experience with Linux, OpenStack, Kubernetes, or other cloud technologies.
  • Development experience with Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using tools like gdb and familiarity with git.

Candidates should also demonstrate an exceptional academic track record and a willingness to travel for internal events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • A strong enthusiasm for technology and collaborative work.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Experience with Ubuntu Linux—kernel or userspace, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, postgresql, Mongo, and distributed systems.

Location: Mecca, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote with occasional international travel (up to 10% of work time)
