We are looking for a DevOps Engineer with database expertise to join our Site Reliability team. This role involves driving automation and tooling to manage, scale, and maintain our databases, contributing to our dynamic and impactful technology team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing self-service database tools used by over 1,000 engineers.
- Building and optimizing automation for database provisioning, scaling, and maintenance.
- Leading and supporting incident response for production database issues, ensuring reliability and swift recovery.
- Delivering scalable platforms for provisioning and configuration management (IaC) across product teams.
- Monitoring and optimizing resource costs to ensure efficiency and minimize waste.
- Implementing observability solutions for proactive system monitoring.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards through automated processes and continuous checks.
What You'll Need
- Experience managing highly available PostgreSQL clusters on bare metal or cloud (excluding managed services).
- Operational experience with PostgreSQL lifecycle tasks, including version upgrades, backup and restore workflows, and disaster recovery strategies.
- A deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals, including query planning, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
- Monitoring and observability experience with PostgreSQL.
- Knowledge of database security, including TLS setup, roles, and auditing.
- Comfort troubleshooting live production issues, including performance degradation and replication lag.
- Familiarity with cloud providers such as GCP and AWS, and experience with distributed systems.
Nice to Have
- Experience using Consul for highly available database clusters.
- Familiarity with monitoring solutions like NewRelic, StackDriver, and Prometheus.
- Experience with HashiCorp Vault.
- Knowledge of backend development, specifically with Java and Python database drivers.
- Experience with continuous delivery using Kubernetes.
