Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is extensively used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring a Software Engineer - L3 Support to work in a dynamic and exciting engineering role in Linux-based infrastructure and applications, covering all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN and Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open source applications running on top of them. This role requires a technologist with a passion for Linux and open source to help troubleshoot and resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, the kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software. Candidates will maintain close working relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams while participating in upstream communities. Responsibilities include developing bug fixes, backporting patches, reviewing code, and maintaining clear communication.

Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote work with international travel up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events, and conferences. Requires willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM or similar.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A strong desire to learn unfamiliar technologies and tackle challenging issues.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Interest in or willingness to learn about Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Postgresql, Mongo, and distributed systems.
  • Strong communication and soft skills, demonstrating curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English is likely essential, though not explicitly stated.
