We are hiring a Software Engineer - L3 Support to engage in a dynamic engineering role within Linux-based infrastructure and applications, encompassing all layers of the stack including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph, Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and related open source applications. This position will provide the opportunity to demonstrate and expand your engineering skills and contribute significantly to the success of our customers and the wider open source community.

In this role, you will troubleshoot complex issues and drive them to resolution, providing workarounds and bug fixes, which are then released upstream and integrated into Ubuntu.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
  • Maintain relationships with the company’s Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams.
  • Engage with upstream communities and develop bug fixes and backport patches.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and participate in process improvements.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly and concisely.
  • Work from home and be willing to travel internationally up to 10% for team meetings and events.

Requirements

  • An exceptional academic background in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A genuine interest in learning unfamiliar technologies and a drive to resolve complex issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

  • Curiosity and accountability, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in or willingness to learn about various technologies including Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and others.
