As a Software Engineer - L3 Support, you will engage in a dynamic engineering role focusing on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. You will work across all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open-source applications that support them. This position will leverage your engineering skills to tackle complex challenges that arise in both Ubuntu and the open-source applications used by our large enterprise customers.

You will be part of a team that is pivotal to troubleshooting and addressing critical software issues, maintaining a close partnership with the company's Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams. This role offers a unique opportunity for a technology enthusiast with a passion for Linux and open source software to build a successful career while making a significant impact on customer satisfaction and community success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open-source software
  • Maintain effective communication with the company's teams
  • Participate in upstream communities
  • Develop bug fixes and backport patches
  • Review code produced by other engineers
  • Manage time effectively against project priorities
  • Contribute to discussions aimed at process and tool improvement
  • Travel internationally up to 10% for team meetings, events, and conferences

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic background, ideally in Computer Science, STEM, or related fields
  • Experience with Linux and open-source software
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux)
  • A drive to learn new technologies and tackle challenging issues
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A curious and flexible mindset with strong communication skills
  • Interest or willingness to learn about various technologies, including Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and distributed systems
